Gloves

For this expedition you are going to need at least two pairs of gloves.

The first pair you will need will be for use on the sledge. These need to be warm, windproof and have a hard wearing, grippy face as you will need these so you can hold on tight! With a lot of investigation I have found that as well as the usual mountaineering gloves those for winter horse riding are particularly suitable. On a recent trip to Betws-y-Coed I found some gloves made by Patagonia that looked particularly hard wearing and suitable, but there are definitely loads that would be suitable out there.

Your second pair are for use when looking after and dealing with the dogs. As you will be fitting harnesses and doing other fiddly jobs you will need appropriate gloves. When you are feeding the dogs you are bound to get some on your hands so being easy to clean may be useful. A pair of leather gloves would be ideal, or even really thick marigolds. When you try on your arctic mits provided by ATD make sure you put these gloves on so that you can wear them both together.
